UniBen Town and Gown Takes Place

The much awaited  Town and Gown symposium took place on Thursday,10th mar, 2016 at the Akin Deko auditorium started with the national anthem/uniben anthem after which the PRO of the University of Benin, introduced all dignitaries present at the occasion.
The occasion was graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof F.F.O Orhunmwense, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. A. Falodun, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. L. I. N Ezemonye, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Ekenwan Campus, Prof S.E.O Aduwa-Ogiegbaen , Registrar, Mrs. O. A. Oshodin, guest speaker, Prof. Osato Giwa-Osagie, the Chief Medical Director UBTH, Prof Micheal Ibadin and immediate past vice-chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof Osayuki Oshodin.
Present at the event were provosts, deans and directors of various faculties and units of the University of Benin.

In a brief remark, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed all present to the event and assured them all that the guest speaker was equipped to do justice to the topic.

After the Vice-Chancellor’s remarks, the university orator was on ground to give a brief citation of the guest speaker ,Prof O Giwa-Osagie, whom he described as an authority in the field. Shortly after that ,the guest speaker Prof Osato Giwa-Osagie gave his lecture titled ‘Harnessing the Significance of Invitro Fertilization (IVF) Test – Tube Babies for Infertility in Nigeria’.

The talked about infertility in men and women, its causes and its prevalence.Some of the causes include; Injury, Mumps-juvenile & youth, infections e.g STI, chlamydia.
He stated that infertility has the following Consequences & impact of infertility: unhappiness,stigmatization,marital & sexual problems, separation & divorce, loss of inheritance, polygamy and suicidal behavior.
The guest speaker also talked about surrogacy, which he described as a process where a man and woman consent to another woman carrying their baby in her womb, among other sub-topics.

At the end of the lecture which lasted for about 2 hours, Prof M.E Aziken gave the vote of thanks. He thanked all for coming and specially thanked the speaker for taking his time to exhaust the topic. He also thanked the VC for making this town and gown symposium a reality.
At the end of the event, the VC presented a gift to the guest lecturer and which the event close with the national anthem being played.
