The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase on the 14th April,2016 made a courtesy call on the Vice-chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof FFO Orumwense. He arrived at about 3:30pm with his entourage. The University PRO introduced the Vice Chancellor, Prof. F.F.O. Orumwense, along with other principal officers, Deans and Directors of the University.
Similarly, the Public Relation Officer of Police Force introduced the IGP’s entourage which includes the Commissioner of Police, Edo state, SP Chris Ezikwe, the commissioners’ deputies, DPO Ugbowo Police station and other Police Officers present.
After the introduction of guests, the IGP gave his address. He thanked the VC and management of the University of Benin for awarding him an Honorary Doctorate Degree during the recent Convocation Ceremony. He also recalled some of his achievements as a police officer and how he led a team of police officers to Namibia to help them in their quest for Independence. He also noted that his visit of Benin city was part of his policy to personally move round the 36 states of the country and FCT to see how the police force was faring. He also addressed the students of the University. He urged those of them who would like to join the Nigerian police force not to hesitate. He sensitized them on some graduate programs that they can key into.
After his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, prof FFO Orunwhense on behalf of staff and students welcome the IGP to the University, he thanked the police boss for deeming it fit to honor the university with his presence on his visit to the State. He urged the ISP to help in organizing training programs that will help to enhance security within and outside the University campus and the state at large especially at this time the state is preparing for gubernatorial elections.
