Regional DAAD, AvH and DFG workshop – Day 1

The first day of the Regional DAAD, AvH and DFG workshop took place at the senate chambers of the University of benin on the 2nd of August, 2016. In attendance was Mr Ingo Herbert, the Consul General of Germany. Also in attendance were the members of the Adminstrative team of the University of Benin.

The event began with the Introduction of dignitaries at the event. After this the National Anthem of Germany, the National Anthem of Nigeria and that of the University of Benin were rendered.

The Consul General of Germany, Mr Ingo Herbert to Nigeria, expressed his pleasure being able to come to the University of Benin for such an epoch making event as this. He urged all present to make use of this workshop to improve their educational experience.

After the Consul’s talk , Mrs Balogun of the Geothe institute gave a talk on requirements for those coming to Germany to study. She talked about resources that people could use to investage schools and life in Germany.

Prof Clement Adeboye gave an incise talk on the various scholarships and grants under the DAAD. He also talked about the benefits that awardees stand to gain from taking advantage of the DAAD scholarship. He added that hard work is the key to getting a DAAD scholarship. He said that the selection committee frowned against publishing in sub-standard journals.

In his  remarks Dr Jakob Mache a visiting Scholar from Germany spoke on the German Advantage and why people should choose schools.

Notable DAAD alumni in attendance were Prof Abiodun Falodun , the DVC academics University of Benin, Prof T.O.K Audu,Prof C.O Usifoh, Prof V.E Omozuwa, Prof M.S.O Aisien, Prof C.N Omoifo, Prof F. Ekhaise, Dr O Uyi, Prof A Adeyekun and Prof O.B Osadolor to name a few.

The event ended with a question and answer sessions after which an exhibition of Art Works from the University of Benin was declared open by the DVC Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof Abiodun Falodun and The Consul General Ingo Humbert.
