Prof. Mrs. Flourence Eichie while delivering her lecture said drugs are natural synthesis substance which are made by God to bring

about relieve, alleviate pains, prevent, cure or to diagnosis diseases

Our lord Jesus Christ recorded in the scripture that there are troubles and tribulation in the world, she went ahead to admonish her listeners that we should not be afraid because we have overcome the world

Quoting the passage where Jesus Christ formulated the dosage form ,where he spat on the ground and made a clay of the spittle and rob the paste on the  blind man’s eyes and said to him go and wash yourself in the pool of Siloam See book of John 9:6-7

The passage she said revealed to us while Jesus was on earth he was a pharmacist.

In the same way she said just as the world is full of trouble so our body are ravaged by disease, and disease has no limit the old and young suffer diseases. In other word to proffer solution to disease we resort to use drugs.

Pharmaceutical are drugs formulated into dosage form to heal disease. All knowledge and wisdom comes from God almighty, God in his infinite wisdom has given mankind the wisdom to formulate drugs into pharmaceutical as keystone to healed the troubled spot, in other word disease

Dosage are the means by which drugs are administer into the body.

Selection of a particular dosage form whether tablet, capsule, syrup or injectable depends on a number of factor such as;

  • The physical, chemical properties of drugs
  • The pharmaceutical stability of the drugs in its dosage form
  • The rule of administration and extend to which absorption into the blood and distribution round every organ in the body

Some drugs by their chemical nature are obnoxious agent with nauseating bitter taste. she added  that some drugs are degraded in the environment as a result of whether condition, present of moisture in the atmosphere or as a result of sun light or as a result of micro organism in the air. So they cannot stay at all in the environment. And so drugs could also be degraded in the body as a result of enzyme. Drugs when expose to high vapor quantity in the atmosphere it ends up degraded as a result of moisture.

 she recommended strict adhering to our prescription for instance some patient do not like to swallow tablet of calcium dosage form they either crush the tablet or empty the calcium dosage form into a flavored drink form  or wrapped it up with Eba or pounded Yam in other to cover the bitter taste and colour. Such practices destroy the dosage design.

 In Conclusion, she reported on the module operando’s of the formulation pharmacist  of the various activities carried out to design, formulate drugs into dosage’s form for relieve to release the troubled spot. She said we should note that by their chemical nature they are rarely administered in their chemical form and dosage.
