University of Benin Holds Her 193rd Inaugural Lecture Series

The 193 inaugural lecture of the University of Benin took place on the 6th of July 2017 at the Akin Deko auditorium-venue of the event. Attracting a packed audience, the event began with the customary recitation of both the national and Uniben anthems. The event was attended by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin Prof. F.F.O Orumwense (who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration-Prof.J.O Ehiorobo) accompanied by Principal Officers of the University including: DVC Academic: Prof.E.P Iribhogbe, the University Registrar: Mrs O.A Oshodin, the University bursar: Dr. Baba Bila, the University Librarian Dr.(Mrs) Evelyn A.O.Idiodi, Deans and Directors, Professors, representative of the royal family as well as many other top functionaries.

The vice chancellor in his introductory speech gave account of his stewardship and   commitment towards the continued success of the inaugural lecture series, which is attested to by this being the 46th inaugural lecture of his tenure. He went further to give his customary updates on programs and activities within the university. He solicited the continued support and co-operation for all stakeholders in ensuring the smooth operations of the university. The vice chancellor proceeded to give an elaborate and eloquent citation of the guest lecturer which highlighted his numerous academic qualifications and accomplishment, amongst the most prominent were the over 30 publication in the name of the guest lecturer in international journals. In concluding the vice chancellor invited the guest lecturer to deliver his lecture drawing a rapturous applause.

The inaugural lecture  was delivered by Professor Vincent Uwaifiokun Aihie, Professor of Mathematics  who spoke on the topic: THE EQUATIONS EVERYWHERE BUT ONLY THE RIGHTEOUS SEES THEM was a lively and well delivered message which drew the links between mathematical equation and everything around us. The highpoint of his speech saw the guest lecturer presenting some mathematical equations as it relates to Gods creation of the universe.

The speaker also gave numerous examples on how mathematical equations can assist in various aspect of Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.

The event rounded off with the decoration of the guest speaker by the vice chancellor amidst cheers and rapturous applauding.
