On Thursday, 11 February 2016, the United Nations and partner
organizations will observe the first International Day of Women and Girls
in Science. This event, which was brought into effect by the signing of a
resolution in December 2015, is a collective effort by several UN agencies
including UNESCO, UN-Women, and the International Telecommunication Union
(ITU) to recognize the importance of women and girls in scientific
communities and to promote their full and equal participation in all
aspects of science education and scientific careers.

We would like to inform you that the call for applications for the AAAS-TWAS Course on Science and Diplomacy to be held in July 2016 in Trieste, Italy is now open.
The course is organized by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and TWAS and aims to expose participants to some key concepts on the interactions between the scientific and policy-making communities. It will also explore contemporary international policy issues relating to science, technology, environment and health.

The event started by 4:00pm with the arrival of guests and the entry of the Chancellor’s procession. The PRO of the University , Mike Osasuyi recognised the principal officers present.
The principal officers present at the event where the Vice- Chancellor Prof Faraday Friday Osasere Orumwense, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Admin) Prof Lawrence Ezemonye, Deputy Vice-Chancellor(Acad) Prof Abiodun Falodun , the deputy Vice-Chancellor (Ekehuan Campus) Prof Samuel Ereyi Aduwa-Ogiegbaen,the registrar And Secretary to The Council Mrs Otasowie A. Osodin and the Bursar Dr. Baba Bila.
The Registrar Mrs .A .O Oshodin Represented by the deputy Registrar introduced the Vice-Chancellor Prof Faraday Orumwense , the rep of the registrar welcomed the Vice-Chancellor and the principal officers of the university.The presence Directors, Deans, provosts,professors, student and invited guest where also recognised.The Vice- Chancellor Prof Faraday Orumwense declared the ceremony open. The Vice- Chancellor Prof Faraday Orumwense went through a short biography of Professor S.M.Ogbonmwan,after which Professor S.M Ogbonmwan was called upon to give his lecture titled” “Lifting Oneself With The Bootstrap: My research experience and other non-parametric paradigms”. The event closed at about 5.30p.m
The programme began with the master of ceremony of the programme Professor Eddy Eragbe welcomed the members of the University management team led by The Vice-Chancellor Prof. F.F.O.Orumwense, FNSE. The Public Affairs Officer The American Embassy , (Public Affair Officer) Dehab Ghebreab was also at the event.
