The 2018 University of Benin ICT Day kicked off today in grand style. 

The event which was held today, the 20th of June 2018 at the Akin Deko Auditorium, University Of Benin, Ugbowo campus was graced by the Vice-Chancellor who was duly represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration; Prof .J.O.  Ehiorobo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics; Prof. P.E. Iribhogbe, Mr. Babajide Duroshola; Community Manager Technical Talent, Andela; guest lecturer, Mr. MD Idiake; CE/LP Softworld Ventures, guest lecturer, Director ICTU; Prof. Frederick Osaro Ekhaise, Hon Ogedegbe; Local government Chairman Igueben, Prof Eddie Erigbe, Prof Onibere; One time VC, Director distance learning; Prof Omoruyi, Director of Audit; Mrs. Ogedegbe, Deputy register students affairs; Mr. Harrison Osahenhen Esq, Director Senate matters; Mr. Moses Izebizua, Director school of Post graduate studies; Mr. Richmond Omagbemi, Deputy Register Exams and Records; Mr. Adodo, ICT Consultant; Dr. Miran.

The Programme started with the arrival/ICT days review (video documentation) by 9:00 am which was followed by the National/UNIBEN Anthems and opening prayers by 9:00 am. At 9:40 am, the university PRO then introduced the dignitaries. A welcome address was then given by the Host/Chairman; Vice-Chancellor; Prof F.F.O Orunmwense, FNSE who was duly represented by the DVC Administration by 9:50 am and declared the event opened. Thereafter there was a brief drama presentation which pictured the theme; Effects of data security by 10:20am.

        The first lecture was then taken by the founder/managing director Interswitch; Mr. Mitchell   Elegbe, who was represented by Mrs. Mariam. She gave a brief talk on data security and noted that it cannot be overemphasized. It was then said that data is on different layers; the transaction layer, the device layer and the network layer. She ended her speech by saying that data in ICT level should be conserved and preserved for sustainable development. Thereafter the second lecture was given by the Community Manager Technical Talent, Andela; Mr. Babajide Duroshola. He talked on data and treats to data organizations, some of which are social media attacks, third party entry, lack of encryption, inadequate data securities and mobile malware.


At 11:50am there was a presentation of award of excellence to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. F.F.O Osarumwense, FNSE by Prof. F.O Ekhaise (Director ICTU/CRPU) on the computer based test. The third Lecture was then delivered by Mr. MD Idiake CE/LP Softworld Ventures on the topic: Best practices for protecting ICT data in organizations from major theft and loses. He gave a proper breakdown on data security and the strategies to solve them. One of such strategy is the minimization of risks. An ICT Consultant Dr. Miran talked on the topic: Digital Literacy; the foundation. He talked on the quality of teaching and how it has affected the level of digital literacy. He then talked on the need to adjust our mindset and provide the link that would lead/pave way for digital literacy. The fifth lecture was on the topic Data security on health sector. The lecture was given by a Cardiologist from the University Of Benin Teaching Hospital. He stated that the health sector is vulnerable because the sector is lucrative and has a lot of data. He gave few solutions which is having a data staff and the development of security policies.

Presentation of awards to the winners of the student App contest by Andela/Inauguration of Andela Student Ambassador Program (ASAP) followed at 12:30 pm. A light talk/Exhibition by vendors from Airtel, Google and Women Tech Makers. The event ended with the vote of thanks by the organizing committee chairman, Mrs. Osasumwen Ehizojie and it climaxed the end of Uniben ICT 2018.
