The University of Benin is partnering with a Geneva-based organisation, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), in the areas of scientific and technological research. CERN is reputed to have the world’s leading laboratory for particle and high energy physics research. Already, two students of the University, Miss Decent Oghifo and Mr David Dosu, who won the globally competitive screening are expected to travel to Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the CERN Students’ Summer Programme. This will be the first time that students from Sub-Saharan Africa will be participating in the programme.

Director of Research and Development, Professor M.A. Bamikole, who presented the students to the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami, and other members of Management, also announced that the European Organisation is favourably disposed to collaborating with the University of Benin as an Associate Institute in Project Management and Implementation.

The obviously elated Vice Chancellor thanked all who made the feat possible. She specially thanked Mrs Fookes, a distinguished alumna, for her support. Madam Vice Chancellor stated that the collaboration with CERN is a major boost to the research and academic profiles of the University.
