The event which was held on the 24th of May, 2018 witnessed a large turnout of personalities including the Vice Chancellor who was represented by the DVC Administration; Professor Dave.O.Ehiorobo, DVC Academics, DVC Ekehuan Campus, Register, Deans of faculties, The Liberian represented by Dr. Luke Obasuyi, Administrators, CMD UBTH; Dr. Darlington Obaseki, Past CMD UBTH; Dr. Mike Ibadin, family, friends, students and well-wishers.
The VC then made it known that in his tenure as the VC, this is the 52nd inaugural lecture to be delivered; 44th to be delivered in the medical sciences and the 5th relating to childbirth. Professor Wilson Sadoh then started his lecture by dedicating it to the Lord Almighty, his wife, his parents and all Nigerian children with holes in their heart. He then stated his reason for choosing the topic which was as a result of a lot of children with hole in their heart and are unable to afford surgery.
In his lecture, the professor noted that the first case of hole found in the heart of a child was first noted in 1967 and over 400 cases have been discovered in the last 3 years which he said was very high. He further advised that children with such cases should quickly go for surgery in other to avoid further deterioration. He also noted that the proper facilities for this the operation are inadequate in the country. Nevertheless he also discussed some of the causes which includes: malnutrition, i.e. lack of zinc and vitamin A, smoking drinking, heredity and other numerous factors. He also explained the solutions (cure) of which he said that about 44% are cured spontaneously or by God. He then chirped in the fact that not all heart surgeries involves open heart surgery. The lecture ended with the professor being decorated with his lovely family standing amicably by him.
