Corruption and Anti-Corruption in the Work Place – ACTU Seminar

Management of University of Benin in collaboration ICPC and ACTU UniBen(Anti Corruption and Transparency Unit) held a one-day sensitization seminar.

 

The event was held at the senate chambers on the 18th of July 2018. The seminar has the theme UNDERSTANDING CORRUPTION AND ANTI-CORRUPTION IN THE WORKPLACE. 

The event was graced by the V.C who was represented by the ICT director; Professor Fredrick Ekhaise. The event began with the opening prayers, the national anthem and the school anthem. The guests were thereby   introduced by Prof. Mike Omogberale to the high table. The guests includes; Mr. Abiodun Adebanjo, Mr. Preye Odogwu, Chairman (ACTU) Uniben; Prof. A.D.A Ighoroje, Commissioner ICPC Edo State; Mr. Olukile Olusesan, Acting Liberian; Mrs. Patience Kayomo. Other guests includes Deans Faculty of Law, Medical Sciences, Physical Sciences and Pharmacy. Deputy Register exams and records, Dir. Servicon and other administrative, academic and non-academic personalities.

 

 

The welcome address was taken by the chairman ACTU Uniben; Prof. A.D.A Ighoroje. She gave a brief definition and view on what corruption is to the society today. The opening speech was thereafter given by the rep of the V.C who therefore declared the seminar opened. Introductory remarks were given by the commissioner ICPC, Edo State; Mr. Olukile Olusesan. The seminar involved talks on corruption and plenary talk 1 was taken by Mr. Preye Odogwu; rep ICPC Edo-Delta on the topic: The role of ACTU in MDAS. A detailed definition of corruption, origin, powers and functions were therefore given. He made mention that the whistle blower policy is also part of the ICPC. He also made note that in order to fight against corruption, teamwork, synergy and collaboration must be put in place for effective results.
 
 

A group photograph was take with the guests at the high table and deans present. Plenary talk 2 was then taken by Mr. Abiodun Adebanjo on the topic; Understanding Anti-corruption. He made note that according to the United Nations, corruption is a moral thing. The guests could not help but laugh when told that corruption in the third world is demonic. It was also noted that corruption emanates from our mindset. Plenary talk 3 was taken by Mr. Jotham Edoreh on the topic; who owns your data? The guests were enlightened on how to manage their device settings and connectivity features. He thereafter advised that people should desist from oversharing online, free apps, and open connections, suspicious and malicious apps. A light talk was thereafter given by the rep of the state government on corruption matters. The event ended with the questions and answers segment, closing remarks and vote of thanks.
