It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the fifth edition of the UNIBEN MLS CPD series Themed QUALITY ASSURANCE SYSTEM AND PATIENT CARE IN LABORATORY SERVICE: THE FOCAL POINT. The last edition in 2017 recorded a great success in terms of participation and workshop content. This edition promises to be better and will surely guarantee real value for your time. The event which was held on the 18th September, 2018 at the University of Benin Banquet hall had in attendance the Rep of the VC: Pro. Ekhaise, DR .F.O. Akinbo, Prof. H.A. Oboh, Mr Anthony Ilegogie, Prof. Cyril Usifo, DR. D.O. Osayande, Mr Osaretin Agbonlahor, Prof. E.O. Osime, DR. H.B. Osadolor, DR. M.A. Emokpae, DR. O.G. Igharo, Post Graduate students and other invitees.
The event kicked off with the introduction of guests at the high table and other guests present followed by the opening prayers. The welcome address was done by Prof. H.A. Oboh and the keynotes address by the rep of the VC. An overview of the workshop was taken by Dr. F.O Akinbo. He talked on the theme of the event which was tagged: Quality Assurance System and Patient Care in Laboratory Service: The Focal Point. He talked on some of the things that make up quality assurance which are: Personnel equipment, inventory and purchasing, Process control, laboratory information and others. He noted that the reasons why we find people working in hospitals is because of the patients in which he said that patients are their first priorities.
The event also featured a pre-test which lasted for about 20 minutes. The guest lecturer Mr. Anthony Ilegogie talked on the topic: Lab quality standards and their implementations in Nigeria. He defined lab quality as the ability to produce adequate results that are beneficial to the patients. He thereafter gave a vivid explanation on how to improve the laboratory. Prof. Cyril Usifo gave a brief lecture on Health planning and management: international best practices. Two lectures were also taken on the topics Postal presentation and Health resources management in Nigeria: Building a model where the patient is king. The event then ended with questions/interactive section and announcement/closing prayers.
