UniBen Celebrates her 209 Inuagural Lecture

The event which was held on the 11th of October, 2018 at the Akin- Deko Auditorium had in attendance the VC, DVC Administration, DVC Academics, DVC Ekenwan campus, Registrar, rep of the bursar Mr. R.E. Ero, Liberian, Provosts, deans and directors, Emeritus professors, Professors, Sen. And Lady Roland Owie, Proprietress of UPSS, staffs, students, friends, relatives, family and a host of others.

The event kicked off with the procession of the VC’s entourage, the national and school anthems with the Registrar introducing the VC’s entourage, who in turn invited the VC to introduce the lecturer of the day. He noted that it is the 62nd in his tenure, 14th in the Faculty of Arts and 4th in the department of English and Literature. Lady Esther was born on the 4th of April 1958 in Aba Akwa Ibom state. She is the first female Professor in the Faculty of Arts to deliver an inaugural lecture. She is happily married and blessed with 7 children and also has grandchildren.

She started her lecture by saying that in the beginning was language and there is no literature without language. She noted that meanings are constantly used even when they are not replied and that bodily attention attracts meaning. The crowd had a field day as the lecturer trilled them humorously with examples of sentences used with or without the punctuation mark “comma”. She made mentioned that no one is controlled in a confused society and that a photograph shouldn’t just be a picture but a philosophy. She then ended her lecture by saying that we all convey meanings with knowledge. The event ended with the Prof. being decorated by the VC amidst her immediate family.
