210TH INAUGURAL LECTURE SERIES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN BY PROFESSOR CLARKSON UDUN EDEMA ON THE TOPIC “FISHES AND SOME NEIGHBOURS IN THE AQUATIC ECOSYSTEM: KEEPING OUR SHARE”.
The event which was held on the 25th of October, 2018 at the Akin-Deko Auditorium had in attendance DVC Administration who represented the VC, DVC Ekewan Campus, Registrar, the Bursar represented by Mr. Ero, Liberian, provosts, deans and directors, VC Igbinedion University, Former President University of Benin Aluimni Association worldwide, President University of Benin Alumini, Deputy Provost College of Education Warri, Professors, Church representatives, Staffs, Students, Family, Friends and others too numerous to mention.
The event kicked off with the national and schools anthems followed by the introduction of the VC’s entourage at the high table by the Registrar. She then called on the representative of the VC to introduce the Lecturer of the day. He noted that it is the 63rd in his tenure, 18th in Faculty of Life Science and 9th in the department of Animal and Environmental Biology. He was born on the 30th of June, 1949. He is happily married and blessed with four children.
He noted that his interest in fishes dates back to 1975. He stated that the term fisheries has not been satisfactory defined. He went ahead and talked more about the different types of fishes and made known that fishing of juvenile fishes should be stopped. He also made known that the pond system is a live refrigerator system. The guests were all keen to know about fishes and what it entails. He therefore concluded that fishermen should be registered so as to know who is responsible for the fishes. The event thereafter ended with the representative of the VC decorating the Lecturer of the day amidst his immediate family.
