The programme which recorded groundbreaking attendance of clergy men and imam to grace the occasion and many guest from outside and within the community of the University of Benin. The sermon taken by Rev.Fr Andrew Obiyan gave a message “Devotion to personal excellence”. He said we are so equipped of what to do but we ignored to be productive, that we should learn to chase personal excellence where ever we find ourselves. His sermon was aimed at utilizing of every oppountunities assign to us and by that we exhaust the advantage of our presence. And made it clear that time is more valuable than money.
Thereafter the convocation lecture was delivered by Prof Suleiman Elias Bogoro , a professor of Animal Science and a formal executive secretary to Tetfund who title his lecture “IVORY TOWER AND THE CHALLENGE OFNIGERIA’S INNOVATION AND CREATIVE RENAISSANCE”. For the purpose of the lecture renaissance was defined as the growth of activity or interest, especially arts, literature and music but he did not stop at this definition that it can be also mean literature and ideas. if we define our path properly and patriotically using the instrument of society at our disposal, Nigeria has all it takes to reinvent itself and recapture lost ground .so in the contest of what renaissance demand of us as a nation, we must stop the wasted opportunities and join other patriots in deciding that Nigeria must take off along the fasted lane, and fire from all cylinder like the renaissance Man. He said we should through research and powerful advocacy in campus; seize the initiative of promoting strong institution, rather strong men rule or personalities, as the veritable foundation for governance . We must restore elevate and institutionalize innovation and create renaissance in the ivory tower to reclaim our enviable leadership role in society. He says the Nigerian renaissance cannot start from our desk, cell and laboratory in UNIBEN? He finally said we can be use to change the course of our country, with all of us on same page and it can be possible.
