RESEARCH GROUPS FROM UNIBEN WIN TETFUND NATIONAL RESEARCH AWARD

Two groups, one headed by Prof. Jacob O. Ehiorobo of the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and the other headed by Prof. Akhere A. Omonkhua of the Department of Medical Biochemistry, School of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medical Sciences both of the University of  Benin were among the thirty two   successful proposals from over One thousand and eight hundred applicants from more than Eighty Universities and other Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.

In line with its mandate and commitment to promote and support impactful Research activities in Tertiary Educational Institutions, the Board of Trustees of TETFund in April 2019 granted approval for the award of the 2016 National Research Grant to Tertiary institutions in the Country. The Grant for the University of Benin team were for Research Projects titled; Flood Forecasting and Integrated Watershed Management within the Niger Delta Region with Prof. Jacob O. Ehiorobo as Principal Researcher while the other Project titled; Identifying the Chemical Components and Potential for Treatment of Diabetes of Stem Bark Extracts of Irvingia Gabonensis (Ogbono) has Prof. Akhere Omonkua as Principal Researcher.

This Research Grant is to enable the University and the Researchers contribute meaningfully to Government’s desire to revive and make Research and Development Launch pad for National Development.
