Delivering his lecture, Staff Sergeant Bassey Osagie focused on how internal security can be a prerequisite for a sustainable Economic Development in Nigeria, while stressing the need for Government to establish highly effective and strong institutions to deal with obstacles that are responsible for the stagnant economic development.
Staff Sergeant Osagie made some recommendations which includes; making use of the right opportunities to set a new agenda for the stability and the security of our country. He also advocated that polices should be put in place for inclusive growth, investment in education, health and good public service. Staff Sergeant Osagie urged the government to put together innovative collective actions in order to build healthy and secured villages, cities, town, state and country.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Osasere Orumwense who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ikponmwosa Omoruyi, while welcoming guests to the event he noted that this Public lecture will provide a podium for discussions, advocacy, and the way forward on this topical issue that touches every aspect of our National existence. He thanked the guest lecturer Staff Sergent Bassey for finding time to share from his wealth of experience the ways to address some of the challenges of internal security in Nigeria.
The guest lecturer was thereafter presented with a gift from the university by the Vice chancellors representative.
