“Water Everywhere, None to Drink: The Paradox of a Thirsty World”, that was topic of 225th inaugural lecture delivered by Prof. Micheal Osasele Omoigberale at the Akin Deko main Auditorium of the University of Benin.
Delivering his lecture, Prof. Micheal Osasele Omoigberale brought to lime light the complex dynamics of the aquatic ecosystem which has waxed stronger ever since and yet there is the unassailable and incontrovertible fact that water is everywhere in our planet, yet its availability and accessibility is limited. What a paradox.
Prof. Omoigberale during the lecture made some recommendations which include an increased understanding of the role of scientific research in finding solutions to issues relating to water quality in Nigeria. He also advocated that there should be regular and sustained monitoring of the aquatic environment in Nigeria. Also at the individual level, people should change their attitude towards the use and conservation of water and desist from dumping of sewage and refuge into drainage systems which could affect the quality of good water in our society.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Osasere Orumwense who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ikponmwosa Omoruyi while welcoming guests to the lecture, intimated the audience on the recent happening in campus and introduced the inaugural lecturer to the audience.
Concluding the lecture, the inaugural lecturer was decorated with inaugural lecture medal.
