Positive Change for some may take a life time. What is more exciting is when that positive change comes about in your life time and when you happens to be part of it. This was exactly what happened on the 9th of March 2021, when the Faculty of Management Science backs the First Faculty to conduct it Faculty Student Union Election to various positions in the Management Science Students Association (MASSA).
The election was quite different from the traditional method of conducting election in University of Benin, as the election was done online, so there was no need for any specific venue because student could vote from anywhere. This has also eliminated the issue of student queuing up for accreditation and voting amid tight security, it also helped in observing Covid-19 Protocol.
A situation room was setup to monitor the election by election observers, also present in the situation room are The Dean of Students Affairs (Prof. Patrick Igbinaduwa), Assistant Dean of the Faculty Management Science (Dr. Andrew Izekor) and the system administrators from ICTU/CRPU (Jotham Edoreh, Chijioke Mokogwu and Ogbemudia Edoseghe).
There was a lot of positive feedback from the field and no adverse report was recorded.
This piece will not be complete without thanking the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin Prof Lilian Salami, who get the ICT team and the Administrative Team, lead by the Director of ICT/CRPU and the Dean of students, the mandate to produce such a system. The Vice-Chancellor closely monitored every step of the process, giving her opinion on how a credibly Electronic Electoral Process can be achieved.
The election started at exactly 10:30am and ended 12:35noon same day.
