National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, and the University of Benin, UNIBEN, on Thursday, 18th June, renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reaffirming a longstanding partnership dedicated to advancing postgraduate education, research, capacity building, and policy development in Nigeria. NILDS IS an affiliate of the University, dedicated to building the capacity of support staff of the National Assembly. The MOU is effective January, 2026 to December, 2028.
A major highlight of the renewed agreement is the expansion of the collaboration to include two doctoral programmes: PhD in Law, Policy and Legislation, and PhD in Social Science, Politics and Governance. The programmes are designed to strengthen research capacity and develop high-level professionals for public service and democratic governance.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Abuja, the Director General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman described the renewal as a significant milestone, noting that the partnership has consistently delivered value through academic excellence, policy research, and human capital development.
The Vice-Chancellor of UNIBEN, Prof. Edoba B. Omoregie reaffirmed the university’s commitment to deepening the collaboration, expressing confidence that the renewed MoU will further promote legislative studies, quality research, and sustainable national development.
