The University of Benin will host the 25th Annual National Conference of the Society for Experimental Biology of Nigeria (NISEB) from June 8–11, 2026, under the theme _“From Research Bench to Market Interface: Leveraging Experimental Biological Innovations towards a Climate-Smart, Food-Secure, and Healthy Nigeria.”_

The conference, announced as a final call for abstracts, will bring together researchers, academics, and industry stakeholders to discuss innovations in experimental biology with direct applications to Nigeria’s climate resilience, food security, and public health.

*Focus Areas and Program*

Organizers have outlined eight sub-themes for the event, including Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security, Bio-Circular Economy and Waste-to-Wealth Innovations, Ethnopharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry, and Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering.

The four-day program begins with guest arrivals, a pre-conference workshop, and networking on Day 1. Day 2 features the opening ceremony, panel discussions, and the first scientific session. Day 3 includes memorial lectures, a second scientific session, a pitch competition, and the Annual General Meeting, followed by a gala and award night. Delegates depart on Day 4.

A pre-conference workshop on _The Research Lifecycle_ will offer hands-on training in instrumentation and techniques such as Spectrophotometry, AAS, UV/VIS, solvent extraction, and PCR. The workshop fee is ₦15,000.

*Key Speakers and Hosts*

Prof. E.B. Omoregie, SAN, Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, will serve as Chief Host. Prof. L.S. Bilbis, former Vice Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, is listed as the Keynote Speaker. Prof. M.T. Yakubu, former Dean of Students at the University of Ilorin, will present the lead paper. 

Prof. (Mrs.) Ehimwenma S. Omoregie, NISEB National President and Host, will lead the proceedings alongside Prof. B. Ikhajiagbe, Local Chapter Chair and Host.

*Registration and Abstract Submission*

Abstracts of no more than 250 words are due by midnight on May 15, 2026, and should be submitted to [email protected]. Early bird registration for members is ₦35,000 until May 15, 2026, rising to ₦40,000 for non-members. Late and onsite rates apply after that date.

Special features of the conference include a science quiz competition, the Prof. A.U. Osagie Memorial Lecture, the Dr. J.T. Ekanem Memorial Lecture, and the inauguration of new fellows.

The conference is expected to strengthen the link between laboratory research and market-ready solutions in Nigeria’s biological sciences sector.
