The Vice-Chancellor of University of Benin, Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie, has commended the donation of advanced Information Technology equipment by CERN, describing it as a landmark development in the institution’s drive toward global academic excellence and digital transformation.
The Vice-Chancellor made this known during an official visit to inspect and formally receive the donated equipment on behalf of the university community. The donation, facilitated through international academic collaboration, is expected to significantly strengthen the university’s capacity in research, data processing, and technological innovation.
Professor Omoregie noted that the intervention by CERN aligns with the university’s strategic vision of promoting cutting-edge research and enhancing students’ exposure to global scientific standards. He emphasized that access to modern IT infrastructure is critical in advancing teaching, learning, and innovation in today’s knowledge-driven economy.
He further expressed appreciation to CERN for its support, highlighting that the gesture reflects growing international confidence in the University of Benin as a center for research and academic excellence. According to him, the equipment will not only benefit students and staff but also position the institution as a hub for advanced scientific inquiry in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor assured stakeholders that the donated equipment would be judiciously utilized and properly maintained to maximize its impact. He also reiterated the university’s commitment to fostering partnerships with global institutions in order to expand opportunities for research collaboration and technological development.
The event was attended by principal officers of the university, academic staff, and representatives from relevant departments, all of whom lauded the initiative as a step forward in strengthening the university’s ICT capacity.
