Gender based violence (GBV) predominantly affects the female gender but is not exclusive to them. Violence and GBV in particular comes in various form such as , verbal, physical, psychological, socio-economic, domestic or intimate partner violence, sexual harassment/violence etc and eliminating them will take the understanding of its forms as well as factors predisposing persons to being abusers or abused.

These were part of issues discussed by the Director, Centre for Gender Studies, University of Benin, Prof. Adefunke Adekunle at the two day multi-stakeholders meeting organized by the European Union-Agents for Citizens Driven Transformation (EU-ACT)/British Council in collaboration with the Society for Awareness and Family Initiative and the Edo State Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues.

The event held at Protea hotel, Benin on the 4th and 5th of December, 2023 attracted participants from Civil Society Organizations, Law enforcement agencies and other relevant government agencies.

The 16 days of activism for 2023, has as its theme; UNITE! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls.
