The University of Benin’s 51st Convocation and 55th Founders’ Day ceremonies included a convocation lecture that underscored the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and national development.

The Convocation Lecture was delivered by Eghosa Osaghae, Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) and former Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Okada, with the theme “Making Our Universities Great.” This was later followed by the award of Undergraduate degrees to 14,083 students of the University of Benin. Among these, 198 students graduated with First-Class honours.

Breakdown of the rest: 4,217 got Second Class Upper, 7,928 got Second Class Lower, and 578 received Third Class. Jessica Adesuwa of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Sciences, emerges Overall Best Graduating Student, Class of 2024, with a remarkable CGPA of 4.89 at the 51st Convocation and 55th Founders’ Day Ceremony held at the Akin Deko Main Auditorium, of the University of Benin.

Also, UNIBEN has obtained approval for 15 new academic programmes to begin in the 2025/2026 session.
