The University of Benin is among eight federal universities selected as beneficiaries of the federal government’s Solar Minigrid Energizing Education Programme.

The signing ceremony, which took place in Abuja was supervised by the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, who charged Vice-Chancellors to be innovative and to take advantage of the federal government’s initiatives to advance the course of higher education in the country.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, was represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Victor Igbineweka.

This development, on completion, is expected to guarantee 24 hours power supply, Facilitated under phase IV of the rural electrification project.

The Vice-Chancellor’s representative, Professor Igbineweka, signed the agreement on behalf of the University of Benin, while the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Engr. Abba Aliyu, signed on behalf of the federal government.
