UNIBEN WINS EUROPEAN UNION GRANT FOR SUSTAINABLE PLASTIC WASTE AND RECYCLING MANAGEMENT PROJECT

The European Union is to fund a capacity building project on Sustainable Plastic Waste and Recycling Management Project, SWARM, to be undertaken by Uniben scholars.

Professor Andrew Amenaghawon of Chemical Engineering Department, who attracted the grant, led his fellow researchers to break the important achievement to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN.

The Project is expected to revolutionise sustainable plastic waste management and recycling practices in Institutions of Higher learning in Nigeria and South Africa.
It is to be implemented by the University of Benin as part of a consortium of local and foreign institutions.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Omoregie, SAN, was delighted with the development and stated that the project aligns with his commitment to advancing environmental sustainability and engendering international collaboration in top notch research for community engagement and impact.

The team Lead, Professor Amenaghawon, gave objectives of the project to include: empowerment of the University’s staff and students with requisite skills in sustainable waste management as well as enhancing the University’s image as a leader in environmental education.
