A meeting between the University of Benin and LG Electronics recently, has yielded result with the donation of a solar- powered water borehole to the University of Benin as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility. The project is sited in Hall 3 (students’ hostel).
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, who was represented by the Chairman, Committee on Security, Professor Frederick Ekhaise at the commissioning, thanked LG Electronics for the gesture which he said will ameliorate a major challenge faced by the students.
Professor Omoregie reiterated that water is the most important source of man’s sustenance hence the students are expected to study better with the provision. He also enjoined the students to guard the project jealously against vandalism.
The Dean, Students’ Affairs, Professor Clement Ighodaro, had earlier appreciated the Vice Chancellor for the much improved electricity situation especially in the hostels, adding that the donation of the borehole by LG Electronics will ensure additional comfort for the students.
The Corporate Marketing Marketing Manager of LG Electronics, Mr. Paul Mba, said he was glad to be a part of efforts to bring succour to the students under the company’s mission of INNOVATION FOR A BETTER LIFE. Mr Mbah said Uniben is the first beneficiary of the give- back initiative, targeted at tertiary institutions.
President of the Students’ Union, Mr Israel Agboola, said the entire students body was grateful for the gesture and called on other organisations and public spirited people to emulate what LG Electronics has done.
