The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba B. Omoregie, SAN, recently received a courtesy visit from the leadership of the Ugbowo community. The delegation was led by the Odionwere, Pa. Andrew Ifaluyi Ekue, accompanied by Chief Osemwengie Ero, the Edobayokhae of Benin Kingdom.

With joy in their hearts and prayers of goodwill, the community representatives extended their warm regards to the Vice Chancellor. During the visit, they presented a number of requests to further strengthen the bond between the university and its host community. These included:
• Increased admission opportunities for indigenes
• Postgraduate scholarships for deserving aspirants
• Employment consideration for qualified youths
• Award of contracts to indigenous contractors
• Enhanced community recognition and partnership
• Annual end-of-year appreciation and engagement with the community.

The Vice Chancellor, expressed deep appreciation for the visit and the heartfelt prayers offered. He emphasized that the University of Benin remains a place of excellence and inclusiveness. He further assured the delegation that their requests are not only valid but aligned with the university’s values and vision. Steps, he said, will be taken to address the matters raised appropriately.
