The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has successfully concluded its two-day Management Strategic Retreat 2025, themed “Sharing the Vision: Strategies for Optimal Performance.” The retreat, which brought together key stakeholders, focused on shaping the university’s future direction and aligning with global best practices in higher education.

The second day of the event commenced with an insightful overview of Day 1 by the keynote speaker and facilitator, Professor Michael O. Faborode. This was followed by an engaging lecture delivered by Dr. A. Odekunle, titled “Achieving Financial Sustainability and Operational Efficiency through Strengthening Resource Mobilization and Compact Bureaucracy.” The lecture provided a strategic framework for ensuring the university’s financial resilience and operational effectiveness.

A key highlight of the day was an interactive breakout session, where participants were divided into four groups, each aligned with the Vice-Chancellor’s Five-Point Agenda. The sessions were led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellors and the Provost, focusing on the following critical areas:
1. Strengthening Academic Degree Programs – Ensuring alignment with national and global academic trends.
2. Positioning UNIBEN as a Hub for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Skills Acquisition – Establishing the university as a center for research and capacity building.
3. Enhancing Staff and Student Welfare – Prioritizing policies that improve the well-being of the university community.
4. Improving the University’s Infrastructure and General Development – Addressing key areas such as electricity, internet connectivity, and campus sustainability.

Following these sessions, each group presented its key insights and recommendations, collectively shaping the university’s strategic roadmap. The retreat concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Edoba B. Omoregie, SAN, who appreciated all participants for their commitment to the university’s growth.

The event wrapped up with a certificate presentation to participants, marking the successful completion of the Management Strategic Retreat 2025 and reaffirming UNIBEN’s dedication to excellence, innovation, and sustainable development.
